Tips on Wearing Hair Jewellery

Hair jewelry is becoming increasingly popular among the rich and famous, and with good reason: topping off your hairstyle with gold or silver chains creates an elegant look with distinctly bohemian undertones (think sixties headbands, with added glam).

It's a tricky style to get just right, however, as too much sparkle will make you look gaudy and overdone. Read on for some handy tips on how to work the hair jewelry trend in high style.

The busier your outfit, the simpler your hair jewelry should be. Prints have been big news for a couple of seasons now, but when it comes to pairing them with hair jewelry, less is more! So if your top or dress features a busy print in many colors (like Georgia May Jagger's in the pic above), then a single chain is the way to go.

On the flip side, if your outfit is ultra-simple, monochromatic, or both, you can afford to be a little more outrageous with your hair jewelry.

Keep the sparkles on your outfit to a minimum. That's not to say that your clothes can't have any shine factor, but if your top is completely covered in sequins then it's best to give the sparkly head wear a miss.

Your hair jeweler should be the focal point of your outfit; give it too much competition and you'll end up looking like a Christmas tree (or worse, like you're desperate for attention!)

Save it for formal occasions. It doesn't have to be restricted to evening wear only, but hair jewelry really does work its magic at formal events (think weddings, proms and so on). No problems there: it looks smashing in Facebook photos, and will make you stand out from the rest of the flock.

Keep your hairstyle simple and relaxed. The good news: hair jewelry works on hair of any style and any length. The bad news: if you're perfectionist about your hair, then you'll need to get over that first!

Because of its bohemian roots, hair jewelry will always look better when paired with a bohemian hairstyle. Tousled, slightly messy up dos are the order of the day here (see Florence Welch, above) or long loose locks with a minimum of heat styling (like Nicole Richie's, below).

At the end of the day, it's all about keeping your look balanced - and of course, having fun with new trends.

Makeup for Wedding Hairstyles

Wedding Hairstyles Makeup

Majority of brides today prefer the do-it-yourself approach when it comes to choosing and creating their wedding hairstyle and makeup.

The idea of reflecting yourself at its very best should prevail in your wedding day style decisions. Whether you choose to get the assistance of a stylist or being your own style guru, staying true to who you are will create a memorable statement that reflects your real self.

Many DIY brides get inspiration from pictures, select the look they like, and then convey their idea to a professional who will complete the rest. Several others may decide to manage the look from the beginning till the end.

To determine the best hairstyle and makeup for your wedding, first take into account your wedding gown style. A simple 1940s-style gown that is form fitting will inspire red lipstick with a soft, curled down-do ala Veronica Lake.

If your gown has a ball skirt, you could go for an up-do inspired by Cinderella. Thus, let your dress and wedding theme set your guidelines. If your wedding style is inspired by the past, browse pictures from previous decades for ideas. On the other hand, if you're a modern bride, look through fashion magazines that feature clean line styles for your hair and makeup choices.

The skill level of your stylist will also contribute to your hair and makeup selection. Ensure the difficulty level of your look is manageable and both of you will be satisfied with the end result.

If you choose to do your own hair, select hairstyles that you can be sure your locks will hold, particularly as time may be a big factor and the demands of tasks during your wedding day may restrict your concentration in front of the mirror. However, one can go for a simple yet elegant hairstyle using suitable styling products.

Hot rollers will increase volume and shed light on the vast amount of possibilities as you try various hairstyles. Whether you choose to wear white or wander away from tradition, ensure your cosmetic favorites are close by.

Choose a shade of lipstick that can brighten your face, and eye shadow which will open up your eyes. Color can be ingeniously integrated into your wedding day face. Beginning with your preferred choice is a good way to make a start.

To avoid unwanted surprises during your big day, make sure you practice. Before the big event, run through your makeup and hair styling a few times.

Rehearsing this more than once can give you a levelheaded idea of the potential difficulties you might face on this day. Go out for a night with the makeup or wearing that hairstyle to see if it can hold up for several hours.

As you are on the search of options, do not be afraid in being bold. Drifting from your usual selection could reveal a surprising discovery that showcases your very best. What's most important is to enjoy the entire process and emphasize your natural beauty.

Dominique Sachse, KPRC 2 anchor, has changed her hairstyle by extending its length and viewers are giving it two scissors up by saying it's a cut above the rest.

She tells me lots of positive feedback has been coming in and I have seen it too on social media.

Sachse won't take the credit. She says the new do was the idea of her stylist Ceron at Salon Ceron in Uptown Park.

Bumble and Bumble Has a Lock on Tousled Hair

When I popped into the salon for a bang trim last week, Alis, my stylist/miracle worker, introduced me to it. She called it her favorite product from the Bumble and Bumble line.

Designed for all hair types, it’s a thick, flexible hold styling creme for lived-in, tousled, messily undone looks, and this is neat - it dries to a matte finish (kinda different!).

bumble and bumble texture

I didn't think I needed another hair styling product in my life, but I’m glad I found this one. I've been using it for about a week to tame my bangs and lift my roots at the crown, and damn - I love it.

Right away I liked the light, beach scent, but I was a little unsure about the texture. It’s thick AND sticky. When it dries, though, it doesn't feel sticky at all, and it leaves my hair touchable soft with flexible hold.

Now, this isn't one of those products you can just throw on and go; you do have to jump through a few hoops to help it reach its potential.

The first hoop, Alis says, is to use it on damp hair. The slippery wet strands help distribute the product more evenly. Alis likes to go a step further by applying a spray-on conditioner first, like Bumble & Bumble Prep or Tonic ($18 each). I prefer Tonic, which is Bumble’s “heavier” spray conditioner, on my thick, course hair.

Next, squeeze a small amount of Texture into your palm (I use an amount about the size of a quarter), and distribute and thin it by rubbing both hands together. Now, really work the product into your hair, trying to coat the strands. It may even help to use a comb along with your fingers and hands.

I concentrate on my bangs and the roots in my crown area, but you can also concentrate on the ends, too, like the demonstration in this Bumble styling video.

Alis recommends using a blow dryer to get more volume and better hold than air drying alone, and I agree.
When I use it on my bangs and crown, I get some great height, and my bangs don’t stick out in crazy directions.

Oh, and if I skip washing my hair for a few days after, I can reactivate the product with a spritz of Bumble and Bumble Tonic. Just hit it with the hair dryer, tousle and you’re ready to strike a pose.

The product does contain dimethicone, in case you’re trying to avoid silicone, but it is listed about half way down the ingredient list. I try to steer clear of silicone styling products because some tend to weigh down my hair, but I like this so much that I’m willing to take that chance. Thank goodness for clarifying shampoos.
